An outgrowth of a hobby, Chateau Thomas Winery was founded by Dr. & Mrs. Charles R. Thomas in 1984. Dr. Thomas was a practicing Obstetrician-Gynecologist (now retired) who completed formal training in winemaking in Napa Valley, California.

After having two locations on the Southside of Indianapolis, the winery moved to a downtown Indianapolis location just south of Union Station. In 1994, the Nashville, Indiana location was born and has achieved phenomenal growth.

In 1996, land was purchased for the Plainfield, Indiana location where both central Indiana patrons and Interstate tourists can access the facility. The new winery was opened in 1997 and has been continuously improved ever since. Dr. Thomas remains as the winemaker and president of Chateau Thomas Winery, Inc.

During its history, Chateau Thomas wines have been entered in International competitions throughout the United States and have won over 300 international medals and awards, including many Double-Gold Medals, a Best-in-the-Nation award, two wines voted to be of the 100 best wines east of the Rockies in 1999, Corning Cup for the best red wine at the International Eastern and four Governor's Trophies as the best Indiana Winery.
