Category Analyst

Job Summary:

The Category Analyst will provide data prep, analytics, and presentation development to the Pompeian Business Unit Managers and assist the Business Insights Manager in projects and ongoing support. Scope of work will serve internal stakeholders, field sales department as well as retail partners. Data sources will include retailer data, syndicated data and internal sales, plus additional sources as required.   • Refresh monthly Nielsen templates and deploy to field
  • Sales reporting identify, measure, and quantify marketplace trends and opportunities
  • Develop category business reviews and new item presentations for Tier 2 and Tier 3 accounts to drive Pompeian Share
  • Establish value as subject matter expert in the category in which we compete
  • Cultivate and nurture relationships with cross-functional teams to support company strategic initiatives
  • Data & Insights resource for both internal and external stakeholders to drive The Data People initiative
  • Assist Business Insights Manager in developing category strategy and go to market strategy
  • Support Business Insights Manager in creation of national selling stories
  • Track new item launches and benchmark against existing items and/or competitive launches
  • Conduct analysis for SKU rationalization, promotional planning, and post-promotion efficacy
  • Help manage contents of Nielsen syndicated database, including new item set up, correction of coding/segmentation errors
  • Other adhoc tasks and data needs as required Harris Teeter, SPINS




Qualifications & Education Requirements:

  • BS/BA required in Business or related field
  • 1 to 3 years experience in Category Analytics or similar field / manufacturing
  • Proficient in Nielsen and/or IRI syndicated data sources
  • A motivated, self-starter that can identify issues/problems and will approach them with optimism and create solutions using data-driven insights
  • Must have high data curiosity quotient and analytical mindset. Must possess strong computer skills, including advanced functionality in Excel and presentation development in PowerPoint
  • Experience with Power Query, PowerPivot, DAX, and Power BI a plus
  • Ability to learn new software programs at an accelerated pace
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Highly organized, resourceful, and adaptive


Work environment: Home office with potential for 25% to 35% travel to Corporate Office and for the purposes of Account presentations as required
