The Food Science and Nutrition Department supports the mission of Brigham Young University and The College of Biology and Agriculture as they "assist individuals in their quest for perfection and eternal life." The Department contributes to that mission by providing, in the disciplines of Food Science, Nutrition and Dietetics, "a period of intensive learning in a stimulating setting where a commitment to excellence is expected and the full realization of human potential is pursued."

The Deparment's disciplines, activities and instruction make a significant contribution to balanced development of the total person. Students receive excellent preparation with opportunities to develop clear thinking, effective written and oral communication, and intellectual integrity. In this atmosphere they come to understand important concepts in their discipline through both didactic and applied experience.

To succeed in this mission, the Department aspires to provide an environment in which faculty exemplify lives "enlightened by living prophets and sustained by those moral virtues which characterize the life and teachings of the Son of God."
