Founded after the repeal of Prohibition, Alaska Distributors Co. began distributing beverages to the state of Alaska from its facilities in Seattle, Washington. Now nearly 70 years old, Alaska Distributors employs 500 people and distributes spirits, wine, beer and non-alcoholic products in Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana. Its product line is diverse-ranging from international brands of spirits and wines to microbrewed beers. With roughly 5000 customers spread over five states, the sales force is kept active. And things were going to get even more hectic, thanks to the slow demise of the phone booth. in most cases, the sales representatives relied on public pay phones to place orders using proprietary terminal devices via analog modems. As analog pay phones became fewer and fewer, the sales representatives found themselves driving further and further to make the necessary dialup connections to place orders.
