Manufacturing Partner (MP) Relationships & Quality Systems

Primary Job Duties

Build meaningful and productive relationships with MPs.

Manage the implementation and oversight of quality systems to assure ongoing achievement of product specifications. Ensure annual certification against one of Unilever’s preferred SQA standards for each MP location (claims certification if required – Halal, Kosher etc.)Ensure that MPs pass technical qualification (initial vetting process for new MPs)Full specification alignment; Quality Manual agreement & sign-off Possess the technology and basic knowledge required to manufacture Annual assessment and no "red" gaps versus technology GMP Hygienic design assessment and agreed gap closure plan (funding, timing, resources, verification).Maintain and optimize product specifications, quality assurance policies and procedures. Lead incident and issue investigation; Link with Procurement for issue resolution and Category GMP compliance. T5Z awareness, gap assessment, KPI establishment, tracking progress


  • Business impact - Based on Spend Product risk Incidents history (A, B, C incidents)
  • Ensure MP/Supplier Compliance with FDA or HC Rules/Supply Chain Preventive Controls
  • Awareness Survey, Verification Documentation Hazard Analysis or Food Safety Plan in place
  • Ensure ongoing use of standards and methods for mfg. processes, inspection, testing, evaluation, etc
  • Identify and recommend process control improvements
  • Evaluate process capability of critical mfg. processes and develop improvement plans
  • Manage consumer and customer feedback by identifying root cause and taking appropriate corrective actions to prevent recurrence and drive ongoing improvement
  • Partner with the necessary individuals/teams to resolve quality issues
  • Initial MP Vetting - conduct process and quality audits at mfg. partners and suppliers, publish findings, critical gaps, recommendations & follow up actions
  • Contribute to and participate in quarterly review meetings with manufacturing partners
  • Maintain a working knowledge of applicable government and industry quality codes, certification and standards (FDA, EPA, Kosher, Organic, etc.)
  • Collaborate with R&D and Process Development to ensure consistent product quality
  • Supports UL Procurement and MPs in driving improvement to correct / eliminate quality issues with materials and packaging suppliers
  • Supports core technology equipment design, process changes and specifications meet local regulatory requirements and product quality needs (including hygiene, etc.)
  • Leads or participates in Quality Expert interventions (e.g. Operational Quality Reviews, HACCP workshops, Training events such as Allergen Management, etc.)
  • Ensures/supports that changes linked to innovation or other aspects (VIP, Supplier, product sourcing strategy, etc.) are managed through Quality processes focused to maintain consumer safety and product quality
  • Verifies that MPs can meet UL Quality standards by conducting technical capability assessments, intensive care and non-conformance monitoring and providing Quality support for issue resolution
  • Provides / supports MP Quality leadership - to influence a robust quality culture through visibility and coaching
  • Links with counterparts in other NA Quality sub-functions to maintain alignment
  • Links to MCO Quality for advisement of quality holds, and approval to release to the marketplace

Experience Required:

  • A minimum of five years in quality/operations required, preferably in a CPG environment
  • Demonstrated quality management experience working with contract manufacturers and/or suppliers. Experience with externally facing business relationships Strong understanding of quality systems, statistical process control, structured problem solving and continuous improvement concepts and practices.
  • Exceptional analytical, root-cause-analysis, and decision-making abilities Familiarity with consumer packaging materials/systems Passion for working in a values-based company Desire to own decisions and take responsibility for outcomes Willingness to continually embrace personal and professional development Demonstrated exceptional written and oral communication skills Proficiency in Microsoft Office & other PC applications

Working Conditions:

Travel: Varies between 25% and 60% Office and manufacturing factory environments
